Overview
Asia is the world’s largest and most populated continent, spanning the Eastern and Northern Hemispheres. It shares the Eurasia continental landmass with Europe and the Afro-Eurasia continental landmass with Europe and Africa. Asia comprises 44,579,000 square kilometers (17,212,000 square miles), or around 30 percent of the total land area and 8.7% of the Earth’s total surface area. Meanwhile, its 4.5 billion people account for nearly 60% of the world’s population (as of June 2019).
