Overview
China, officially known as the People’s Republic of China, exists in East Asia. With a population of over 1.4 billion, it makes the world’s most populous country. Although it spans five geographical time zones and borders 14 countries, it is the second-largest number after Russia. China follows a single standard time offset of UTC+08:00. With an area of approximately 9.6 million square kilometers (3.7 million mi2), it is the world’s third or fourth largest country. The country officially divides into 23 provinces. Moreover, five autonomous regions, and four direct-controlled municipalities. Including Beijing (the capital city), Tianjin, Shanghai (the largest city), and Chongqing, as well as two special administrative regions of Hong Kong and Macau.
