Spain
Overview
Spain, officially known as the Kingdom of Spain, is located in Southwestern Europe. It has some pockets of territory across the Strait of Gibraltar and the Atlantic Ocean. Its continental European territory lies on the Iberian Peninsula. Additionally, it comprises two archipelagos. These are The Canary Islands, located off the coast of North Africa, and the Balearic Islands, situated in the Mediterranean Sea.
Spain shares a physical border with an African country (Morocco). It is because of the presence of African exclaves such as Ceuta, Melilla, and Peñón de Vélez de la Gomera. This makes it the only European country with such a feature. Moreover, several small islands in the Alboran Sea are also under Spanish territory. The Mediterranean Sea borders the country’s mainland to the south and east. Whereas France, Andorra, and the Bay of Biscay border it to the north and northeast. To the west and northwest, Portugal and the Atlantic Ocean respectively form the country’s boundaries.
